Stop Your Cold in its Tracks

Apple Cider Vinegar TeaThe weather this winter has been super strange lately on the East coast –warm and sunny one week followed by freezing rains and a snow storm. Not the easiest thing to adjust to, the kind of weather my dad calls get sick weather.

But that’s one thing I’ve actually managed to avoid doing –at least on the cold and flu front. And I feel I owe it to one thing: Apple Cider Vinegar.

Definitely not your standard apple flavored beverage, but taste aside, ACV is a miracle worker. You can use it from everything to cooking to hair and skin (which I haven’t tested). I felt cold symptoms coming on a few days of this “tea” knocked it right out before the first sniffles even hit.

Apple Cider Vinegar TeaThe key to this tea is the ACV to water ratio –too much vinegar and it will be too bitter to handle. You need just enough for the vinegar to unleash all of it’s awesome properties –which I’ve found to be able 1 tsp. That being said, if you like things a little bitter, feel free to add more, I’ve had up to 1/2 a tbsp in a larger mug.

The lemon helps to tone the bitterness to be more reminiscent of lemonade and less of a huge glass of vinegar. And the honey adds a subtle sweetness that makes the tea nice and smooth.

The best part about this tea is that it’s build-able. Add ginger or mint for extra flavors or to detract from the vinegar taste if it bothers you. And if you don’t have too many ingredients on hand, adding a tsp or two into your favorite tea will do the trick just as well!

Once you feel the sniffles coming on, or notice that something seems to be floating around your office, add this drink into your morning or pre-bedtime routines. Both if you’re feeling especially susceptible.

Apple Cider Vinegar Tea

  • 1-2 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/2 tbsp Honey
  • Lemon Juice
  • Water (fill the rest of the mug)

or
Add 1-2 tsp of ACV into a mug of your favorite tea, add lemon.

Hopefully Spring will come soon and this up and down weather will normalize. But until then, drink up friends!

  1. I’ve managed to stay healthy this season, and hopefully I’ll keep it up! Hmm, I’m not sure how I feel about apple cider vinegar… but I know I’d probably prefer it over being sick 😛 -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s

    • Haha much better than being sick. A little bitter for sure but totally bareable. I even made a ACV blood orange lemonade that was DELICIOUS (sweet, not sour!)

  2. My mom has been raving about this combo, but I’m nervous about the taste…!

    • I promise the taste isn’t bad! If you have a tea you really like, I’d definitely start by adding a small amount of ACV to that first to get used to the bitterness! Smells way worse than it tastes!
